Narrative Thinking

A personal project, completed in partial fulfilment of my three year degree, showcasing ability to convey ‘complex concepts’.

2017

The goals

In this brief, the designer was required to explain a complex concept through the means of a 90-second motion graphic.  This motion graphic had to have a narrative that makes sense and conveys the whole concept.

The approach

This was the designers’ first attempt at story-telling and producing a longer video animation using Adobe After Effects. The chosen complex concept to convey, was to answer the question: “Why do we have different dog breeds?”.

This was challenging because of the vast variety of dog breeds and the reasons for each and every sub-breed. Therefore the designer chose to explain why there are different sizes of dogs and why they were bred. The information is about average reasons why these dogs were bred.
